In December 2012 Skjern Papirfabrik initiated the production of district heating made from waste heat from the paper drying process. The district heat from Skjern Papirfabrik covers approx. 60 % of Skjern City’s total need of district heating. By achieving a total district heating production of 40,079 MWh in 2014 the district heating supplier has saved an equivalent production of district heating. This correspond to a total CO2 saving of 8,200 tonnes of CO2 in 2014.
Production of district heating
What will the future bring?
Skjern Papirfabrik has in autumn 2014 started the building of a large biomass fired steam plant replacing the existing natural gas fired plant. This is a major step towards a CO2 neutral steam generation. The plant will be ready for steam production ultimo 2015.
With this investment it will be possible to produce even more district heating to Skjern City with associated decrease in CO2 emissions.
