Skjern Papirfabrik A/S

The mill was founded in 1965 by local investors. Skjern Papirfabrik A/S is situated in the western part of Denmark. In surroundings of scenic beauty, about 500 metres to the river most abounding in water in Denmark, Skjern Å. The mill has a staff of 75 employees.

The mill has had several owners over the years. Since September 2005, the owners has been made Buur Invest A/S and three of the factory’s senior employees:Managing Director Jørgen M. Thomsen, Financial Controller John Tholstrup Nybo and Logistics Manager Hans Hessellund. The Board Chairman is Charlotte Buur Poulsen.

Location

The mill is located centrally in West Jutland about 125 km from the German border, 50 km from the European motorway network, 60 km from sea transport via Esbjerg. This location makes it possible to deliver within 24 hours in most of Europe.

Skjern Papirfabrik is a make-to-order manufacturer with more than 40 years of experience. Our primary products are cardboard cores and tubes, liner and paper, which are delivered as semi-manufactures for further processing. We only use recycled paper in our production, which operates on a round-the-clock basis 355 days a year. More than 90 per cent of the production is exported. All our products are manufactured in close cooperation with our customers, and we make a continuous effort to optimise and further develop our products. Being highly flexible, our production can be switched to various qualities.

High quality, flexibility and just-in-time deliveries actually constitute some of the basic elements of the mill customer service policy, supported by optimally working logistics and in close co-operation with carriers.

The products of Skjern Papirfabrik:

• Coiled board used for spiral winding of cardboard cores for kitchen and toilet rolls and for cardboard cores for film, gift wrapping paper, carpets etc.

• Bookbinder liner used as cardboard in ring binders, books and puzzles.

• Sheets paper used as interleaves between different products.

• Paper reels paper which is mainly used as floor covering in the painting industry.

Production

Skjern Papirfabrik A/S annually produces approx. 54.000 tons of paper and board on a Fourdrinier machine with twin-dandy topwire and Küster roll.

The paper machine is equipped with Valmet process control. It has a maximum trimmed width of 2,900 mm and produces in the grammage area ranging between 150 and 450 g/m².
The production of paper takes place at a working temperature of approx. 120°C in the drying process. In order to avoid unnecessaryuse of energy for heating purposes, our production operates round-the-clock. In this way we obtain continuous operation and a constant temperature in the drying section.

Jagenberg rewinder with minimal cutting width of 350 mm, maximum outside rewind diameter of 1500 mm and min. outside diameter 450 mm. Packing as required by customer.

Raw Materials

55.000 ton of 100% recycled paper are used as raw material, primarily from Danish recycled paper sources in the qualities listed below:

It is rewarding to take a social and ethical responsibility

We make a continuous effort to reduce the negative impacts on our internal as well as on our external environment. We only use recyc­led paper, and the factory has its own wastewater treatment plant, which cleans the process water before discharge. In our production, we only make use of environmentally approved additives and safe ancillary materials such as potato starch. We are convinced that our concern for the external environment as well as our focus on staff development, human rights, health and safety and other aspects of social responsibility affect our business in a positive direction. Skjern Papirfabrik is environmentally approved under DS/EN ISO 14001 and EMAS.
